It’s a widespread belief that when you purchase a new bra, you should immediately start wearing it on the tightest or middle hook. This myth, however, can lead to limiting the lifespan of your bra and may even compromise your comfort and support.

So, let’s debunk it. Its origins can be traced back to times when bras were made from non-stretchy materials. You would wear a bra on the tightest hook and the looser hooks were used as an option for days when a little more room was desired. But the world of lingerie has evolved significantly since then. Today’s bras have underbands crafted from flexible, stretchy fabrics designed to hug your body comfortably and smoothly.

Now, the best practice is to start wearing your new bra on the loosest hook. As the material naturally stretches with regular wear and washing, you can then gradually transition to the tighter hooks. This way, you’re using the multiple hooks to accommodate the changing elasticity of the bra over time.

However, there are exceptions to every rule. If you’re pregnant or in your teenage years, starting on the tightest hook could be beneficial. This is because during these periods, your body is expanding, and you’ll need the extra room that the looser hooks provide as your size increases.
